A short link still has a destination
The URL tools can help prepare links for sharing. A redirect hides the full destination from the initial display, so give recipients enough context to trust what they are opening. Do not use shortening to disguise a harmful or misleading destination.
- Check that you own or are authorised to share the destination.
- Review its content and access requirements.
- Create and test the resulting link.
- Keep the original URL for an alternative access path.
Consider persistence and confidentiality
A short link depends on the redirect service and the destination remaining available. Do not assume it is permanent or private. A URL can contain access tokens or personal information; shortening it does not remove those values from the destination or make them secret. Server-based URL workflows receive the link you submit.
