Choose dimensions before quality
Use the image tools to prepare an image for its intended display size. Reducing unnecessary dimensions is often useful before stronger compression. Enlarging a small image cannot restore detail missing from the original.
- Keep an original copy and choose target dimensions.
- Preserve the aspect ratio unless stretching is intentional.
- Choose a format that supports the transparency and compatibility you need.
- Inspect the saved file at its final viewing size.
Review more than file size
Look for blurred text, colour shifts, lost transparency and compression artefacts. Check whether metadata remains in the output before publishing an image with sensitive location or author information. Processing location depends on the specific image tool; do not extend the PDF local-processing description to every feature.
